Varner is of Cape Verdean descent[4] and the daughter of Mikelyn Roderick and Jimmy Varner, songwriters and publishers.[5] Roderick was a backup vocalist for Barry White; and has written and recorded with Tevin Campbell and Rahsaan Patterson. Roderick released an album on the Dome label in 2007.[6] Jimmy Varner is a songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist who has collaborated with Gerald Alston, Kool & the Gang, and Will Downing.[6]
Elle Varner spent most of her childhood sleeping on studio couches,
running around green rooms, and watching her parents struggle to make a
name in the industry. At age six she began to play musical instruments, beginning with the flute, and later she moved on to piano and guitar.[5] She attended several music programs including actress Wendy Raquel Robinson's Amazing Grace Conservatory starting at age 11 and Alexander Hamilton High School's Academy of Music's Vocal Jazz Group.[5]
It was there she penned her first song, “Thankful”. The song, which
she played with one string on the guitar, scored the top prize at a
local talent show. Earning a coveted spot in New York University’s Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music
(which only accepts 24 students per year) was further proof that she
was headed in the right direction. In 2008 Varner graduated from NYU's renowned Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music:[5]
“To be recognized for my talent in a program that only selects 24
students per class, out of thousands, was like, ‘Wow!’ I knew that I had
really stepped up to the plate” says Elle Varner.[7]
At age 16, Varner picked up the guitar for the first time. Frustrated that she wasn't instantly as good as Hendrix,
she dropped the guitar and became a part of Alexander Hamilton High
School's Academy of Music's Vocal Jazz Group. Once there, she learned
about the complexity of the voice, jazz music and talented jazz artists like Ella Fitzgerald.
Varner was surprised to discover that she had been chosen to be a part
of the Grammy in the Schools Mentoring Program. Through this program she
was taken weekly to the Fox Studio, where she met with mentor Kelly
Burgos, and President of Fox Music, Robert Kraft. Soon after, Varner
hesitantly applied to NYU
with her C average and was surprisingly accepted. Not only did she get
in, but also she was admitted into the second class of the Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music.
Upon graduating, she was awarded "most likely to get signed" and "most
likely to win a Grammy." Four years later she finds herself a
well-rounded and cultured singer-songwriter.[5] In 2008 Varner graduated from NYU's renowned Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music.[5]
In October 2009 she signed with MBK/J-RCA Records along with a co-publishing agreement with Sony Music.[8] After honing her skills even further, Varner became one of the first artists featured in BET’s Music Matters campaign for 2010.
Varner's debut single "Only Wanna Give It to You" was released on August 6, 2011. The song, which serves as the lead single from her debut studio albumPerfectly Imperfect (2012), features American rapperJ. Cole. The song peaked at #20 on the US BillboardR&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. In October 2011, she was listed as one of TheBoomBox's '15 Artists to Watch'[9] and was one of the artists featured in BET's Music Matters campaign.[10] On October 7, 2011, RCA Music Group announced it was disbanding J Records along with Arista Records and Jive Records.
With the shutdown, Varner (and all other artists previously signed to
these three labels) will release her future material on RCA Records.[11][12]
In preparation for her debut studio album, Varner released a mixtape on January 23, 2012, titled Conversational Lush as promotion towards her debut.[13] The second single from Varner's debut album "Refill" was released to iTunes January 31, 2012, and debuted at #78 on the US Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. On February 11, 2012, Varner and The Roots gave a performance dedicated to Whitney Houston, for the Roots Pre-Grammy Jam Session at the House of Blues in Los Angeles.[14]
When asked in an interview what is to be expected from her debut,
Varner said in a statement: “a lot of color, a lot of range. There’s fun
songs, emotional songs, deep songs, everything you could think about is
on that album."[15] Elle Varner's debut album was released on August 7, 2012.
Flavor Flav's girlfriend of 8 years, Elizabeth Trujillo, 39, told
police that she and Flav began arguing - when Flav suggested that she
was CHEATING. The argument reportedly started with just arguing, but
Flav quickly became violent.Elizabeth says after getting AMPED UP, Flav ripped out her earring and THREW HER ONTO THE FLOOR.
That's
when Elizabeth's teenage son, a 6 foot 175 pound 17 year old boy, flew
into action. The teen overpowered Flav until his mother was able to
break free.
Buy Flav was not finished. According to police, Flav
grabbed two large knives and chased the boy through the house,
threatening to murder him. The teen told police he ran to his sister's
upstairs bedroom, where he said Flav kicked in the door and threatened
him while still holding both knives.
Luckily police arrived before
anyone was severely hurt. Flav was caught WITH BOTH KNIVES in his
possession, and with cuts on his fingers.
Flav was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. If convicted he faces 6 years in prison.
American rapper based in Oakland, California. Born in 1981, Kafani is

Meanwhile,
the controversial video was taken in Miami at Club Liv. It shows Lil’
Wayne onstage performing after stopping briefly to allegedly kiss a man
on the lips.
According to Vibe magazine, the person seen on stage
with Lil’ Wayne is actually a deejay who also goes by the name Stevie
J, and is a part of Lil’ Wayne’s label YMCMB.
"I leave kissing guys to them other guys," Stevie J added.
The kiss should come as no surprise to Lil’ Wayne fans.
The rapper infamously kissed Cash Money Records head honcho Birdman on the lips in 2006.
Birdman
defended the act, saying "That's my son, ya heard me," to radio DJ Tim
Westwood. Lil’ Wayne is not actually Birdman’s son, however.
"If
he was right here, I'd kiss him again. I kiss my daughter, my other son,
I mean, you have children? Well, if you did you'd understand what I
meant with it. I just think people took that too far man. That's my son.

Authorities
discovered marijuana, heroin and a loaded gun on Grammy-winning rapper
Nelly's tour bus during a routine stop at a Border Patrol checkpoint in

Texas — Authorities say they found drugs and a gun on rapper Nelly’s
tour bus at a West Texas border checkpoint where several celebrities
have been arrested.
Hudspeth County sheriff’s officials said an
initial search Wednesday night turned up small amounts of marijuana and
heroin and a loaded gun. Authorities say a second search revealed a
duffel bag with about 10 pounds of pot.
Officials say one of the occupants was arrested after admitting the drugs and gun belonged to him.
In
a statement, Nelly blamed his staff member. The rapper said, “Neither I
nor anyone else on the tour bus was aware of his decision to bring
these.”
Previous drug-related arrests of celebrities at the
checkpoint near Sierra Blanca included Willie Nelson, Snoop Lion
(formerly known as Snoop Dogg), Fiona Apple and actor Armie Hammer.
A
Las Vegas cab driver from Ethiopia found nearly a quarter of a million
dollars in his taxi and was able to get it back to its rightful owner.
A cabdriver's honesty shined as bright as the lights on the Las Vegas
Strip. Adam Woldemarim found close to a quarter-million dollars when
cleaning his taxi — and returned it. You talkin' to him about
thoughtfulness?
A passenger supposedly forgot his black laptop case filled with $221,510 in winnings from the Wynn casino in Sin City.
“I have never seen that much money in real life – just in the movies.
When I saw it I was shocked,” Woldemarim told the Daily News.

"That's not my money," he told NBC News, explaining why he would not have felt justified in keeping the cash for himself.
He continued working for about an hour, when he was called back to the office.
A young man contacted the cab company claiming the money. The man tipped Woldemarim $2,000, reported the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Adam Woldemarim, a Las Vegas cab driver, found nearly a quarter of a
million dollars in cash in his back seat and turned it into his

Although Woldemarim was happy — he did not expect any bonus that night —
his friends are not impressed with that they consider a measly reward.
"That's all?" a fellow cabdriver asked. "How about 10 percent, at least? That's $20,000!"
But another one of Woldemarim's friends, Alex Alebachew, thinks the
story of Woldemarim's decency alone can help challenge stereotypes about
immigrants.
"[A] lot of people think foreign cabdrivers like us abuse tourists or
they long haul their customers or we're just here causing problems and
we don't belong here," Alebachew lamented. "They never see the good side

Woldemarim came to the United States seven years ago. He was one of
3,000 Ethiopians to receive a U.S. government visa via a lottery,
reported the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
He works five or six days each week to earn $350. His friends and
family in Ethiopia have asked him whether the $2,000 tip will go far.
"I'm not living in Ethiopia anymore," he replied. "I'm in America."
But Woldemarim does not regret anything. He is simply glad he did the right thing.
